What’s a cultivar?

You’ve probably heard the many different cannabis varieties referred to as “strains.” But the terms “strain” is really best suited for talking about diseases. In botany, cultivated plant varieties are typically referred to as “cultivars,” so that’s why we use that term. But language is fluid and you should use whichever term feels best to you. We use them interchangeably, and just wanted to mention the difference.

Weigh your options

Ok, we don’t mean to actually get out a scale and weigh things. We just mean that you should check out any descriptions of the cannabis flower to help you make a selection. Factors to consider are:

• What effects are you looking for? Do you want to be uplifted and creative, or are you looking for a relaxing and chill vibe?
• Flavor and aroma – everyone has different personal tastes. Some folks like really citrusy, sweet tasting cannabis, while others prefer gas-y, skunky weed. Descriptions can help you find one that will taste good to you.
• How strong is it? Vermont cannabis tends to be more potent than the weed of the past. Be sure to check the THC content as well as the Total Active Cannabinoids and Terpenes. These percentages will help you understand the full scope of how strong a particular strain will be.
• Terpene Profiles – It’s important to remember that THC content isn’t the only active component. Terpenes will really change the effects profile of a product. Some will bring you up, while others will make you wanna take a nap.
• Be sure to ask your budtender – our staff is here to help you find the right strain (or cultivar!) for your desired effects profile!
