Here at Lake Effect Vermont, we’re all about celebrating local roots, classic vibes, and a little bit of speed. That’s why we’re proud to announce our sister brand, Sunset Lake CBD, is sponsoring Jazz Legend Racing for the 2025 season—and we’re inviting you to help us celebrate.
On Friday, August 22, we’re hosting a “Meet the Car” event right here at the dispensary in South Hero. You’ll get a chance to see the retro-inspired #165 race car up close and meet the man behind the wheel: 76-year-old racing phenom Ron Horton, also known as the “World’s Oldest Rookie.” Whether you’re into CBD, classic cars, or just love a good story, this car meet-up is not to be missed.
The Legend Behind the Wheel (and the Wheel Behind the Legend)
Ron Horton started his racing career at age 72, earning more points in his first season than any other Golden Master racer in the U.S.—and he’s still going strong in his fifth season on the INEX Racing Series circuit. His car, a 5/8ths-scale model based on a 1937 Ford/Chevy coupe, is a tribute to his late father, who raced a ’37 Chevy with the same number, #165, over 70 years ago.
But Ron’s connection to the Sunset Lake CBD farm goes deeper than sponsorship. “Sunset Lake CBD has been part of my nightly routine for a while now,” he told us. “It’s helped with my neuropathy and lets me get a good night’s sleep. That means I can still hit the track at 76 years old. Partnering with you all was a no-brainer.”
Meet Car #165 at Lake Effect Vermont
Join us on Friday, August 22 from 3–6 PM at Lake Effect Vermont (169 South Street, South Hero, VT) for an afternoon of cars, conversation, and cannabis. This event is open to all ages—bring your friends, family, or fellow car lovers. You can take photos with the car, talk with Ron, and soak up the classic car show atmosphere.
If you’re 21+, you can also head inside our dispensary to browse Vermont’s finest cannabis flower, pre-rolls, edibles, and more. Lake Effect is powered by the same team behind Sunset Lake CBD and carries a full lineup of our sun-grown, small-batch products—all cultivated just down the road.
Where to Catch the Race Car This Season
Car #165 is scheduled to appear in multiple INEX-sanctioned races this summer, including:
July 13 – Thompson Speedway, CT (2 races)
July 19–20 – New Hampshire Motor Speedway, NH (4 races)
August 16–17 – New Hampshire Motor Speedway, NH (4 races)
September 7 – Thompson Speedway, CT (2 races)
September 26–28 – World Championships, Dominion Raceway, VA
The car will also make appearances at car shows and parades across the Northeast. We’ll be cheering Ron on every step of the way—and we hope you will too.
So mark your calendars for August 22. Whether you’re coming for the car, the cannabis, or both, we can’t wait to welcome you to Lake Effect Vermont!
