Best Late Summer Activities on Vermont Island

Experience

Lake Champlain becomes downright dreamy in the late summer days of August through mid-September. It’s warm enough for a sunset paddle, but the evenings are cool and comfortable. Late summer is also when the island calendar is packed with activities to enjoy. It’s prime time for low-stress adventures followed by a chill sesh with your favorite Lake Effect treats.

Wondering what to do in South Hero, VT? Here are some late summer activities in Vermont to look forward to.

Explore Outdoor Activities on Lake Champlain

Late summer is the ideal time for lake activities. Rent a kayak or stand-up paddleboard near sunset and head out as the sky turns cotton-candy pink. It will stay light late enough that you can even head out after work, or make a day of it and head out in the cooler mornings.

If you’d rather stay on shore, cruise the Island Line Trail on your bike to take in the views without getting wet. It’s nearly 14 miles of trails, perfect for walking or riding.

Whatever you choose, don’t forget to pack a picnic and head out to Knight Point State Park. There is an excellent swimming beach there, or you can opt to rent a boat.

After a full day in the sun, keep things mellow with a low-dose edible. 2-5 mg gummies can help ease sore muscles from biking or kayaking without ruining tomorrow’s plans.

Stroll Through South Hero Farmers Markets

Explore Champlain Islands Farmers’ Market for heirloom tomatoes, goat-milk cheese, and locally made goods. You’ll find the market every Wednesday from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at Saint Rose of Lima Church in South Hero, and Saturdays from 10:00 to 2:00 PM at Saint Joseph’s Church in Grand Isle.

The market runs through the summer and into early autumn. Bring your cooler to keep all your finds fresh and make a day of it by setting up for a lakeside picnic!

For relaxed social vibes, try a CBD-rich or balanced flower before you shop. Or spark it after you unload your groceries and enjoy all your local treats.

Enjoy Scenic Late Summer Events

If you want to get out and about and enjoy the last of the summer sun, plenty is happening around the island. Head to Snow Farm Vineyard & Distillery on Thursday nights for their free summer concert series. There will be a variety of music, so there is definitely something for everyone.

Whatever South Hero Island events you choose, pack a mood-boosting pre-roll or a discreet vape. Choose a strain that will keep your energy bubbling as the sun sets and the stars appear.

Whatever is on your itinerary, Lake Effect is just up the road, and we’ll help you make the most out of every minute this summer with our Vermont island summer guide. Stop by Lake Effect in South Hero for local guidance and cannabis pairings!
